I have officially signed up to do NaNoWriMo next month.
My novel has been saved and my outline has been … well, I’ve thought a whole lot about it. My main characters and supporting characters have all been named and semi-visualized. And I am super psyched though not quite ready to go.
I came across NaNoWriMo in 2007 but always told myself that I couldn’t do it. That I just didn’t have the time, or the self discipline. Eventually I got over myself just tried it. Last year was the first time that I participated in NaNoWriMo. And it was awesome. I do not think that I have ever pushed myself as a writer like I did last November. It is an experience that I highly recommend you try as a writer at least once.
A few things that I leaned about myself;
- I am a planner and a pantser.
- I am highly competitive… with myself.
- Hot tea is my go to drink when hardcore writing is being had.
And one thing that I learned about my husband during NaNo….
- When I feel like calling it quits, he transforms into a drill sergeant.
Last year when participating, I did not have this blog, so this month has been kind of cool seeing the other bloggers posting about their NaNo prepping for next month.
My favorite question from over at H.M.Brooks Writes was; How long has your story idea been haunting your mind? Since the beginning of September so really not that long.
This lead me to thinking of other questions…
Who or what inspired your story idea? A very stressful day with one of my kids and then seeing a commercial for a children’s movie.
What do you do when you feel writer’s block coming on? I take a walk outside and try and clear my mind of everything except what I see around me.
When is your best writing time of day? Are you a night owl, early bird, or lunch time type-er? I tend to write my best when I have a quiet house, but I am not a morning person or a late night person so…. during pet nap time hours.
Where is your preferred place to write? In my bedroom, on the laptop. Writing in a public place does not work for me, the commotion of other people around me has me people watching instead of writing.
I couldn’t think of a Why question… sorry. I’d love to hear your answers to the above questions! (Even if you aren’t participating in NaNo, it’s still great to meet other writers out there.)
And if you are doing NaNoWriMo, we should be buddies. My user name is Ajprince, or post your username in the comments line and I’ll look for you (now that I know how :)).
