Wow, I cannot believe that it is already two weeks into January already.
How many of you have already thrown your “Resolutions” to the wind? Or are you still sticking vigilantly with your goals? Me, I did not make any resolutions for this year. It was too much pressure. I felt myself cracking with the need to break the rules before I had the chance to think of what my goals should have been. I am more of a daily To Do list’er. There is no way that I can promise a 12 month goal, it stresses me out.
What I have been doing is reading. A lot. I have finished 11 books in the past six weeks, 8 of those started and finished in the past four. Some of them were for the pure fun of reading, some were “research” which turned into a pleasurable read, some were just down right hard to get through – but we won’t discuss those. I am hoping over the next few weeks to get the book reviews up of my favorites read.
Currently I am reading Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson, a book thrust upon me by my very cheerfully pushy friend Jess. Â So far, it is an intriguing book and the movie trailer looks fantastic. I love reading a book and then getting to see it made into a movie. Comparing characters that you have visualized in your head and then seeing if the characters cast can do the book version any justice. Or seeing which scenes from the book made the cut to the movie, or which scenes were changed because certain things do not play out well in a movie quite as well as they do in a book. So I am excited to read this one.
On the writing front, I am less writing at the moment and more figuring out my missteps in my manuscript. I’ve struggled with certain WHY aspects in the story and thankfully, I think I have finally figured that part out and just need to go back and make the changes necessary. My first rough draft is still just that, rough, but it will come together in due time.
I also submitted the first 10k words, of the story that I wrote over the summer, to my writing group and received much greater praise than I had been expecting. When I first brought the idea to Amanda, the leader of the group, that I had written a novella with six different point of views, her face contorted into this painful but trying hard not to discourage me grimace. (I am laughing just remembering it.) Anyways, so after she overcame the painful idea of six POV’s, she suggested I let others take a look at it before I completely give up on the whole premise of what I had done, I waited several months – it took me a bit to pull up my Grown Up Panties – and uploaded to the group. And it has given me hope that I might actually having something worth salvageable.
I guess I better get back to it, happy Thursday!

Excuse me??? Who’s the pushy one? I seem to remember someone telling me to read Rooms, the Jonathan Tropper book, Big Little Lies, et. al. Oh, and let’s not forget Gone Girl. And who told me to join the friends group? And do NaNo? And Camp Nano?
And all I’ve done in the meantime is tell you to read Before I Go To Sleep. Because it’s a good read. 😉
~mutters under breath~ I’ll show her who’s pushy….

No spoilers!!
I had to take a bit of a blog-posting hiatus, my brain was a bit tired.
So far, 2015 has been a good year, I hope yours is spendid as well!

Tip top thank you. Spiffing, as Bertie Wooster would say. Cold enough to, to use a nautical expression that sounds rude but isn’t ‘freeze the knockers off a brass monkey’ but generally good. Well apart from a trip to hospital in early March, but we can ignore that for now!

I said much the same in my New Years post:
Thanks but no thanks to the pressure. I am doing a oneword2015, though. Happy to hear you’re reading so much and editing — editing is part of the process so you’re working on your writing. Excellent. Happy New Year. 🙂

What is a oneword2015? This sounds interesting…
I know that I haven’t been commenting on everone’s blogs of late, but I promise that I’ve still been reading! I loved your son’s shirt, everyone should have one.

I’m really glad you didn’t scrap what you have done –because it is really good. No lie. It is really good. Cannot wait to see what else you do with it!
And I think you are both pushy. But in the best way. 😉

Thank you CJ! It is always a relief when someone reads your work and you get helpful feedback. I will admit, I was dissappointed that we didn’t have time for yours on Sunday. I cannot wait to read more!!!!
Being pushy is a compliment in every way!!! It means you care enough about something to push the subject. 🙂

You’ve been hibernating in books! A good place for a writer to go! 11…you can gobble them up. Good for you figuring out what does and doesn’t motivate you. Lots of un-resolutioning happening this year. I got all nerdy over goals and once I do that then I go back to my daily to-dos with the frame in the brain. Sounds like you are making good writing progress, too!

My TBR pile has become unmanageable and after NaNo and with the holidays, it was time to step back from the computer “thinking”.
Nerdy goaling is my kind of thing! I find that I am more productive woth a daily or weekly to-do list. Those long term goals seem to get pushed back further and further till they never get done. You posted a goal graph recently that I thought was genius!!
