I cannot believe that we’ve flown threw the first week of October already.
Halloween is only three weeks away, how crazy is that?! I only realized this because my daughter’s Elsa costume arrived in the mail this afternoon. (Why she couldn’t be a zombie princess again is beyond me.)
It certainly does not feel like Halloween in my area. This month has been unseasonably hot. We are talking low to mid 90’s. We haven’t even finished decorating our yard because it’s too hot (we aren’t a big “outside in the heat” kind of family). Our haunted graveyard barely has any bones protruding from the dirt.
During the month of October I like to pull out my classic horror movies, Rosemary’s Baby, Psycho, the original Halloween’s with Jamie Lee Curtis. (Her and her mom, Janet Leigh, are my favorite scream queens). Unfortunately, I’m a total wuss and can’t watch any of the newer films . Anything too graphic or full of gore give me nightmares. How lame is that?!
One of my favorite things to do is look up scary stories and haunted places with my best friend. When I was a teenager, my friends and I would try and scare ourselves by going to the local haunted houses and abandoned places. Now I stick to looking online instead of trespassing.
My reading choices change a little too. I lean more towards the horror/suspense genres. This month I am hoping to finish up Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein then start on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Or maybe Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I’m not sure which. I haven’t read either but want to read both. Hmmm…
So what Halloween traditions do you have? Or if you don’t celebrate, do you have any favorite horror movies? Books?
